HI and Welcome, glad to have you in my virtual kitchen!
My name is Kristi and I’m currently adjusting to the (temporary) life as a Housewife. For the past 3 years, I was working on private yachts being fed by awesome chefs. I didn’t have to cook a thing. I’m not bragging, but it was the truth. When I first started on Yachts I didn’t know how to cook a meal but I enjoyed helping the chefs when I could. Since Chefs LOVE to tell/show you what they know, I learned a lot, very quickly. Including that I don’t want to become a full-time chef.
I love cooking and I love coming up with unique flavors that get judged very honestly by my husband (as of June 17,’10). We were previously living on a 64 ft sail boat so space is limited and dishes need to be kept to a minimum. Yes, we ate off of paper plates. I know this is not very ‘green’, but we will make up for it in other ways. I couldn’t work then because I’m Canadian and we’re in the US. So until we were married, “Housewife” is was my main profession and writing is what I do (for now). Just short of a poodle skirt and a curly bob, I most likely resemble a 70’s housewife; cleaning, cooking, making his lunch and when I can peel myself out of bed at 7am, handing him his lunch and coffee as he’s on his way out the door.
I decided to write this blog for all the women–and men– who don’t realize how easy cooking can be and how much you can simplify the process. Also, I love the idea of homeopathy (per-say) and how certain food do (or don’t do) things for your body that most people don’t know. ie. Kiwi’s have the most Vitamin C out of any food– oranges are one of the lowest, or that prunes have about 4 times more potassium than a banana– not to mention fiber, and no they don’t make you run to the toilet. Oh how I love fiber. My favorite: Dates–with the pit– only 4 a day will give you your fiber intake. With ingredients like garlic, spinach, broccoli etc. entered into your diet. You’ll be doing your body wonderful things and I can’t wait to tell you all about it.
I will say this: I am not a nutritionist, or a health nut, I don’t run and haven’t done yoga in longer than I like to admit, but I love learning about food and I love sharing recipes, so please learn, love, cook and share your recipes with me. All I ask is that if you try one of my recipes, let me know whether you loved it, hated it, came up with your own version or had trouble making it. All criticism is constructive!
